During the 2nd quarter of this year, our sales tracking monitor – RBSM, has shown a continuation of interest in the popular categories of Art/Photography/Architecture, Modern first editions, and Religion & Theology.
Notably, Modern first editions attained a new, highest level of interest compared to prior periods. In the category of Religion & Theology, a pair of 17th century King James Bibles, sold for three times their estimated value at a Sothebys auction in England.
We are also adjusting the authors’ report to include American author Nelle Harper Lee, who has recently (last two quarters) attracted a renewed interest for her rarest works. Born in 1926, Lee has won the Pulitzer Prize in 1960 for her novel To Kill a Mockingbird, which deals with witnessing racism in her hometown of Maycomb, Alabama. She was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom of the United States for her contribution to literature in 2007.

Hi there
Can you please advise re Oliver Goldsmith’s Vicar of Wakelfield which is hard copy orangey tan leather & gilt cover. Pub Colston & Coy Ltd, Edinburgh. No date. No illustrations. Cover says the Panel Books. Maybe a series? Think owned by family member and maybe a gift early 1900s.
Many thanks
I have just acquired a Latin version of The Tale of Jeremy Fisher – Fabula de Domino Ieremia Piscatore ISBN 0 7232 2104 9. In good condition with an unclipped dustjacket ( Price £1 NET) Unmarked other than an inscription written in ink on the inside front board.. Can you tell me if this is scarce/rare and give me an idea of value please.
Quite scarce. Copies are available on Amazon for less than $100, one of which comes with the dust jacket.
I’ve found 5 copies on Amazon but they vary wildly in price- up to $4500. It would be nice if they were at the higher end ! Thank you
I have the 1906 tale of mr Jeremy fisher in the dustwrapper. I also have the story of ms moppet, the tale of squirrel nutkin(1903)and the tale of Tom kitten(1907) all in their cover, same publisher . How can go about finding their value. Thank you.
True first editions with a dust jacket, in good condition are very scarce. You should contact a Children’s early English editions specialist such as Glenn Books email: [email protected] Phone: 913 268-0767.
I have a tale of Jeremy Fisher. I also have all the numbers
The F. Warne & Co, 1906 first edition, first state with dustwrappe is very scarce and very valuable.
I inherited a copy of “Mignon” by Mrs. Forrester published in 1896 in Philadelphia by J. B. Lippincott Company. Searching many online sources, I have been unable to find a reference to this particular edition. I have found many modern reproductions but only one original, a three volume copy published by Hurst & Blackett in 1878. Mine is a single volume. Google Books has the original first edition facsimile available online. It was published in 1877 by the same publisher as my edition.
Do you have any idea what this book is worth or what further steps I can take to ascertain its value?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
Definitely hard to find. The author, Mrs. Forrester had a few other books published by J. B. Lippincott around that same time that you may be able to locate and compare.
I’ve just picked up a pinky beige paper covered copy of Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher with an oval inlay of the character on the front. There isn’t a publishing date but the numbers 794.862. Do these numbers mean anything? Any idea of date or value? Looks to be in fair condition with image of 12 characters featured on front and back pages. Perhaps this book came with a cover originally? Thanks for your advise.
Hello, I wonder if you could provide me with some advice.
I have in my possession a book by author Ralph Chubb called “Flames of Sunrise”
It is a hand water coloured book and numbered 5, it comes with an original flyer and newspaper review.
I have found some information on the author and the book and it would appear that it is quite rare and perhaps valuable, albeit appeals to a niche Market. Could you provide us with some help in how to go about obtaining a valuation and perhaps selling the book?
Many thanks
James
I have two (2) original Beatrix Potter books: copyright 1934, THE TALE OF MR. JEREMY FISHER and copyright 1939, THE TALE OF MR. TOD – – both published by Fredrick Warnes & Co. Inc. New York. At what would you place a valuation? They are in good condition.
Also, I have a small from 1902 or before: THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ST. LUKE; edited by M.R. Vincent D. D.
published in London: J.M. Dent & Co: CII; and Philadelphia: J.B. Lippencott Co.
Printers: Colston & Cov Limited, Edinburgh
At what would you place a valuation? This book is in excellent condition.
First British/American editions, first printing of the Beatrix Potter books are dated 1906, and 1912 for The Tale of Mr. Jeremy and The Tale of Mr. Tod respectively. Selling prices for these start from a few hundred and go as high as a few thousand dollars. The J.M. Dent edition of The Gospel According to St. Luke was published in 1911 and the average price for it is around $10 to $20.
